The Borders Abbey Way - a walk through history
A cicular walk of 65 miles in length, linking the 4 great Borders Abbeys of Melrose, Dryburgh, Kelso & Jedburgh and also including the towns of Hawick & Jedburgh. Each section is conveniently split into walks of around 12 miles providing satisfying day walks taking in superb scenery en-route.
Billerwell is situated close to the Jedburgh to Hawick section and makes an excellent base to uindertake either short sections or the entire route as transport to different start and pick up points can be arranged.

Day 1 - arrive at Billerwell in time to explore, perhaps climb Ruberslaw or take a more gentle walk around our 350 acre.
Day 2 - after a hearty Billerwell breakfast, set forth along the RUle Water to join the Borders Abbey Way and the spectacular stretch to Jedburgh - taking between 2.5 - 3 hours. In Jedburgh explore the Abbey, Mary Queen of Scots House - have lunch in one of the excellent eating places. Later continue east, crossing the River Teviot to Harestanes, Wood side Gardens (wonderful tea-time treats!) or the beuatuful Montevoit Gardens. Catch the Service Bus from the A 69 to Denholm and either return on foot - or we can pick you up. Relax and enjoy the evening at Billerwell.
Day 3 - After another good breakfast, walk along the beautiful valley road to join the Borders Abbey Way towards Denholm (the more intrepid can go straight over Ruberslaw) (2 hrs). After coffee in the excellent Denholm Meet (and antiques centre) walk along the lovely River Teviot to Hawick - here explore the cashmere outlets, Tower Mill or the Heritage Hub and return to Denholm by bus. Evening celebrations in the Horse & Hounds Country Inn, Bonchester Bridge (2 miles from Billerwell).

| | Walking around Jedburgh and Hawick
With its famous red stone Abbey, founded by King David 1st, and Mary Queen of Scots House the walks and trails around Jedburgh include much historical and natural interest. there are a wide variety of shorter wlaks and 2 long distance trails - St Cuthbert's Way and The Border Abbeys Way pass through the Royal Burgh. Hawick is renowned for its textiles - and cashmere in particular. The surrounding countryside featuring wide rolling hills, wonderful rivers and lochs can be explored by the 12 walsk featured in the 'Walks Around Hawick' booklet

You can walk almost anywhere on the 350 acres that are part of the farm - from the shaded walk along the Rule Water to the summit of dramaitc Ruberslaw. Many of the walks are shown on maps available at the farm and we can even provide you witha GPS unit which will ensure you don't get lost! On these walks you will encounter an amazing array of wildlife, flowers and birds - so binoculars and cameras are a geat asset.

Billy Goats Gruff Bridge - ideal for smaill children (30 mins ish) Little Cottage in the Wood - 1 hour gentle stroll Foxglove Hill - 1.5 hrs - with a stiffer climb The Summit! - 2 hours - with final stiff ascent - but worth it for the view Denholm for lunch - a pleasant morning's walk taking in Ruberslaw summit on the way out and returning via the lower route on the Borders Abbey way.

This 62 ½ mile / 100km walk links the two religious sites of Melrose Abbey and Lindisfarne Priory. Transport can be arranged to & from pick up points on this wonderful walk and ther is also a liggage transfer service. Stay at Billerwell and walk the first part of this walk in comfort!
